Sustainable Petaluma Network supports those creating a sustainable
culture and economy in the Petaluma Valley area and beyond. Creating
a sustainable culture and economy means harmonizing those systems
with the natural systems that support us, thus achieving a healthy,
fruitful, abundant stablity that will last to nurture future generations.
SPN supports and encourages the work of those growing and evolving
in a harmonious, sustainable direction, for example, work concerned
with community building
and simple grounded living; renewable
energy sources; organic gardening;
ecological planning and building
design; pedestrian
and bike orientation; water
awareness, conservation, and reuse; local
economic initiatives with a bioregional perspective; resource
sharing; elimination of the concept of "waste": living lightly and
artfully with less "consumption"; and social and economic justice.
These goals tend to reinforce each other in a holistic way.
Check out the sections of this site to see some of the inspired
action so far in this new era of our collective journey. This website
exists to communicate what is going on in our community so everyone
can share in the collective knowledge. Some sections even have multiple
projects.
There is always room to either help with an existing project or
begin on another facet of the topic. Why not jump in and get involved?
SPN has no heirarchy or regular meetingsthe weekly
film series and the email listserves
are constant threads of connection and information in this transformative
time and help keep us collectively informed. Stay in touch!
Sustainable Petaluma Network is here to catalyze, instigate and
support creative response to the challanges of our present historical
moment- a moment filled with promise and severe crisis side by side.
Our world needs new socio-ecological values and a new ethical
awareness to guide and balance it. There are possible scenarios
for the human species that are truly frightening and those that
are positive and uplifting. Sustainable Petaluma Network is being
woven to invoke and give shape to the latter prospect.
When we hold sustainability values within our own lives, they
imply an ever deepening ecological awarenessan awareness that
takes whole systems into account, including all social classes and
all species. Sustainablity means to live in a way that honors our
Place in the San Francisco North Bay Area and our whole Planet as
it is placed in the vastness of space. It is in this California
place that we are playing out our soul values and acting out our
collective story.
